Understanding target achievement
Target cards show progress towards an employee, manager-individual, or manager-team objective. Use the displayed values as a starting point, then verify their metric, period, and source-data freshness.
Who can use this guide
Section titled “Who can use this guide”This guide applies to all roles that can view Performance Targets. Administrator access was reviewed; Manager and Employee visibility still requires role-specific verification.
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Use this guide to interpret an existing target without changing its configuration.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Access to the relevant target card
- The approved target value and period
- The name of the associated Metric Definition
- A known source-data refresh time
Review target achievement
Section titled “Review target achievement”-
Open Employees and select Performance Targets.
-
Find the relevant target and confirm its type: Employee, Manager (Individual), or Manager (Team Rollup).
-
Confirm the target owner or population and the associated Metric Definition.
-
Review the current value, target value, achievement percentage, status, end date, and recurrence shown on the card.
-
Confirm that the end date and recurrence match the period you intend to review. Monthly recurrence was observed; other recurrence options were not fully verified.
-
Check that the connected source has refreshed and that the Metric Definition returns the expected value for the same period.
-
Compare the displayed achievement with the current and target values.
Verification required: Exact percentage rounding, status thresholds, treatment above 100%, and behaviour when the target value is zero were not confirmed.
-
Use Recalculate Achievement only after validating the source data, metric, and period. The recalculation scope and its effect on approved results remain unverified.
-
Reopen the target card and confirm that its value, percentage, status, and end date are consistent with the validated inputs.
Expected result
Section titled “Expected result”You can identify what the target measures, who or what it covers, its review period, and whether the displayed achievement is consistent with the verified metric input.
Important notes
Section titled “Important notes”Warning: Do not repeatedly recalculate a target to compensate for missing or stale source data. Resolve the first verified data or metric issue before recalculating.
- A manager’s individual target is different from a manager team-rollup target.
- Existing target cards were reviewed, but the blank-slate and bulk target-creation workflows were not available.
- Do not assume the displayed status is based only on the percentage until Product confirms the status rules.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The value is not current
Section titled “The value is not current”Check the last successful data refresh, target period, source records, and associated Metric Definition before recalculating.
The percentage looks incorrect
Section titled “The percentage looks incorrect”Compare the displayed current and target values, then confirm the period and metric. Record the exact inputs if rounding or threshold behaviour remains unclear.
A manager total is unexpected
Section titled “A manager total is unexpected”Confirm whether the target is Manager (Individual) or Manager (Team Rollup). Review the manager relationship and team population before changing the target.
The target card is missing
Section titled “The target card is missing”Check role access, target owner, target type, end date, and available page filters. Do not create a replacement until the original target and its assignment are understood.
